Bertrand* has known fear and suffering throughout his life. Several of his siblings were killed under mysterious circumstances. He says, “We all suspect the witchcraft that was going on in our neighborhood at the time. This tragedy ruined my whole life. I’m in fear everywhere I go, in everything I do.”

Voodoo, sorcery, and witchcraft are common in Haiti, and many people feel threatened by their presence, just like Bertrand.

During that time, he lived in a small house in the countryside without electricity and running water. Bertrand wished for Scripture to soothe his aching heart, but he could not afford his own Bible — a struggle many in Haiti feel.

But thanks to dedicated partners, Bertrand was able to watch the JESUS Film and received his very own Bible.

The JESUS Film left a strong and immediate impression on Bertrand that filled his heart and changed his way of looking at the world.

He says, “While I was watching the Jesus movie, I felt a shift in my mind, and I got goosebumps. This film gave me new strength. It renewed my faith and my desire to serve God and be obedient to Him.”

Bertrand adds, “We are all sinners, but staying close to the Word of God transforms your life, your heart, your bad thoughts, everything. The Bible was like a Christmas present to me.”
