“We’ve been in their boots . . .”
Three colonels oversee Bible ministry to the military.
At American Bible Society, we want to make sure the ministry you provide to our military is as effective as possible. That’s why three highly experienced colonels oversee this critical work.
Colonel Art Pace, Colonel Gordon Groseclose, and Lieutenant Colonel Paul McCullough oversee military programs for our American heroes. The three served for a combined total of 82 years.
Lieutenant Colonel McCullough says he knows from experience how critical the work of American Bible Society is to those who serve. “While I was in the Army, I had an opportunity to command at the company level, and I had about 300 Soldiers in my command at any one given time. The Word of God got into the hearts of those Service Members and it transformed the company.”
He received his own first Challenge Bible from American Bible Society. “In Iraq, there was gunfire, there’s IEDs, roadside bombs. On any given day, I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to make it back home, but the Word of God sustained me through that difficult time.”
Colonel Pace, a Chaplain in the military, says he is excited about the opportunity to work with the team to design military-specific materials to reach people for Jesus Christ. He believes this helps “by speaking their language, understanding their culture, and understanding the things they go through that no one can understand who hasn’t journeyed in their boots.”
“To reach these folks effectively, Bibles and Bible resources need to be in a language and format each Military Member can understand, so that they may experience its life-changing message,” Colonel Pace says.
Colonel Groseclose, also a Chaplain, agrees and says it is a “wonderful privilege to work with hundreds of Chaplains, providing Scripture resources and programming for thousands of Service Members, Veterans, and their families. As Chaplain, I gave a Soldier his first Bible, trained with them in the heat and the cold, gave the prayer as they left for deployment, and knelt beside their casket.”
Thank you to our generous partners for joining these three colonels in the very important work of reaching out to our Troops and Veterans with Bibles and specialized Scripture resources. The support helps offer healing and hope to our nation’s heroes.
Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.
