Can you imagine being born into such poverty that you live without hope? Robert Olieberg can.

The 22-year-old from Suriname, like almost half of the people in this poor nation, grew up in poverty. He had no permanent home, and his family moved constantly trying to survive.

Suriname is a nation in crisis. Businesses are closing, food prices are soaring and hospitals are running out of basic supplies like towels and bandages. The people of Suriname are suffering and need encouragement only Scriptures can provide.

When Robert received his own copy of God’s Word, it was a dream come true!

“For me it is like receiving a wonder in my life … like receiving a gift from someone who truly cares about me,” he says. “The first time I read the Bible it felt like the Holy Spirit of God was taking over. It will surely help me through my tough life. It will guide me in every step and decision I will and have to make in my life.”

When hurting people in Suriname engage with God’s Word, they meet Jesus Christ and find life-changing hope.

Robert says, “I cannot imagine my life without God and His Word. My life would be over at this moment if I did not have God and His Word in my life.”
