Edeline* is one of many who leave their homes in Haiti to search for a better life in the Dominican Republic. The challenges Edeline faced brought her to depression, and the pandemic only worsened conditions for her.

Unfortunately, she was part of nearly 40 percent of people in the Dominican Republic who face poverty and cannot afford Scripture — keeping them from the hope that can uplift their spirits.

Reflecting on that time in her life, Edeline says, “I was very depressed. I thought I was going to die.”

But through the generosity of committed Partners Edeline watched the JESUS Film and received her own Bible in her heart language — and soon her heart opened to light once more!

In addition to watching the JESUS Film, Edeline attended an audio Bible listening group conducted in her heart language, which she says changed her life significantly.

Edeline explains, “It helped me put the words into practice. It has helped me to become a better person and to know the biblical stories more clearly. If I had not attended, my life would be worse . . . The Bible helped me to change the shyness and rebellion that I had in me.”
