Church Growth in Laos Produces Bible Shortage
Pastor trusts “God will one day provide a Bible for every Hmong Christian”
In poverty-stricken areas like the Hmong region of Laos, the good news of God’s love and peace is transforming lives and entire villages. But because of the incredible hunger of new followers of Jesus to know more about God through his Word, Scriptures are scarce.
Pastor Va Cha, who founded a church in the area, says, “We only have five Hmong Bibles in our church — not nearly enough to go around. We place great importance on being able to read God’s Word in our own language, so we are teaching our children to read Hmong … in the belief that God will one day provide a Bible for every Hmong Christian.”
The Bible is an answer to prayer, especially for children like Loe. When she was just a young girl, her mother died. Today, Loe lives with her father in a small wooden shack, and because her father works at night, Loe stays home alone.
But the Bible Loe received from American Bible Society has made a life-changing difference to her. “The Bible means a lot to me. Jesus says, ‘Do not be afraid,’ so when I’m afraid, I remember these words,” Loe says. “When I’m worried, the Bible’s words come to mind. I give thanks for the chance to know God and study the Bible.”
Thank you for praying with us, that God will continue impacting young people like Loe and so many more in Laos with the hope and comfort of his Word.
Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.
