Life in Liberia can be extremely difficult for people like Jerome*. Without God’s Word to turn to, it would be easy for anyone to feel lost, especially in this war-torn country.

Military coups and civil war have divided Liberia for over 20 years. Governmental corruption has become an accepted fact of life in a country where many are desperate to escape a life of poverty.

And because more than thirty indigenous languages are spoken in Liberia, providing Scripture in every heart language has been a difficult and time-consuming goal.

But thanks to the dedication and perseverance of our generous financial partners, the Bible Society is making great strides in delivering God’s Word to people in Liberia.

Jerome had been going to his town’s church regularly, but they did not have a Bible in his heart language of Bassa. Without a Bible he could truly understand, Jerome could not comprehend the full breadth of what it means to be a Christian.

“I have always felt inferior,” Jerome says. “It seemed like I couldn’t do anything right. I felt empty, without peace or hope.”

When he heard that the Bible Society was presenting an audio Bible in Bassa, his native language, Jerome was among the first to go listen. From that day, his life has been changed.

“My life has turned around,” Jerome says. “I am a new person ever since I listened to the Bible. With my Bible, I can talk with God at any time!”

Today, Jerome is a Bible teacher in his church, and his self-esteem has never been higher. Thanks to our partners for changing lives like Jerome’s by providing heart-language Scriptures where they are needed most.
