Maria lives in a modest rural village about an hour east of Nairobi, Kenya. There, families live in small concrete houses, surrounded by dirt paths and humble tin structures. Just outside Maria’s home, there is a circle of plastic chairs with a small audio player in the middle.

But this is not just any player — this is an audio Bible provided to Maria by the Bible Society and our financial partners.

In this intimate circle, Maria has established a listening group where the men and women in her village can hear the Word of God.

Maria and many of the other women in the listening group are no longer able to attend their church due to physical limitations and a lack of transportation, and because of Maria’s vision problems, she is unable to read the Bible herself.

“The audio Bible has made a difference in my life,” Maria says. “My thoughts and worries are calmed. I know that Jesus will always be with me and will carry me through hard times.”

The circle of chairs is not the only place you will hear the Bible in Maria’s village.

Maria brings her Bible with her everywhere she goes so she can share the Good News with everyone she meets! Maria’s neighbors tell her they know she is coming when they hear the Word of God approaching.

Praise God that every Bible provided by friends of American Bible Society has an exponential impact in places like this small village in Kenya.
